About Me

Because it feels so odd to speak about myself in third person, I’m not going to…

I’m Tamra Howell, a multidisciplinary artist working across paint, ink, clay, and wood. My art has always been rooted in storytelling—myth, history, and the transient nature of human existence—and I strive to create pieces that feel both timeless and alive. Every painting, every sculpture, is an attempt to connect past and present through craft, symbol, and imagination.

Art has been with me my entire life, growing and evolving as I’ve moved through different landscapes and experiences. I’ve created from studios in Alaska, Iowa, and now Georgia (again), and each place has left a distinct imprint on my creative process. My academic background in English Literature and Theatre also weaves its way into my work, giving me a love for narrative structure, archetypes, and symbolism. For me, visual art is simply another form of storytelling—a way to capture something eternal in a fleeting moment.

My work often branches in multiple directions. Currently, one path is my Norse-inspired tarot paintings, where I reinterpret the archetypes of tarot through the lens of Norse mythology. These paintings are meant to serve as bridges between ancient stories and contemporary symbolic language, offering viewers a way to engage with myth on both personal and universal levels.

The other path I’m currently on is my sculptural work with skulls and bone forms. These pieces combine organic remains with sculpted elements, creating relic-like works that explore cycles of life, death, and renewal. They are meditations on impermanence, memory, and the sacred connection between human beings and the natural world.

My greatest inspirations come from Norse and Celtic traditions, folklore, and the liminal spaces between the seen and unseen. I’m fascinated by the stories we carry, the myths we inherit, and the way they continue to shape us. Through my art, I hope to create moments of resonance—pieces that invite curiosity, reflection, and a sense of connection to something larger than ourselves.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, and for walking between worlds with me.
